Where Liquid Came From
Liquid emerged in the late 90s and early 2000s. Artists like High Contrast, Calibre, and London Elektricity moved away from the darker, more aggressive styles toward melody and atmosphere. LTJ Bukem's Good Looking Records had already pointed in that direction with "intelligent" jungle. Liquid took it further: more accessible, more emotional, and built for both listening and dancing.

High Contrast: The Liquid Pioneer
High Contrast (Lincoln Barrett) is one of liquid's defining artists. His early work—True Colours, High Society—combined soul samples, jazzy chords, and rolling breaks into a sound that felt both classic and fresh. Tracks like "Return of Forever," "If We Ever," and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" became liquid anthems.
